Museum of Science

The Museum of Science Offers Four Unique Ways for DCF Foster Kids & Families to Experience the Museum.

Our dedicated partners at the Museum of Science create access and opportunity for DCF foster children and families by providing free Museum admission, *free family memberships, summer course scholarships and free group visits for **DCF Group home and Residential Programs.

One of the world's largest science centers and Boston's most attended cultural institution, the Museum attracts approximately 1.5 million visitors a year through its vibrant programs and 700 interactive exhibits. To date, more than 2300 DCF foster families have enjoyed thousands of visits to the Museum!

We're so thankful to the Museum for opening its doors for learning, inspiration, and fun--moments that matter--for all our state's children in foster care and their devoted foster parents.

*Family membership is offered to foster families who visit the Museum frequently.

**Currently available for the Boston and Northern regions.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many tickets can we get and how often can we visit the Museum of Science?

You can get as many tickets as you need to cover the eligible members of your household: Primary and secondary care providers who consented to allow their information to be shared with the Museum and their biological, adoptive, and foster children.

Visit as many times as you like!

Can my children get in for free if they visit the Museum with another adult – a grandparent or babysitter, for example, or on a school field trip?

No. A primary and/or secondary care provider who has consented to allow their information to be shared with the Museum must be present and must have valid photo ID in order to gain free admission for themselves and the children who reside in their household and this offer cannot be combined with school field trips or other group visits or offers.

What about other adults who live in our home? And, can our children bring friends?

You are welcome to bring additional guests both adults and children but will need to purchase tickets for any adults who are not listed as primary or secondary caregivers, any primary or secondary caregivers who have not provided consent for their information to be shared with the Museum, and any children who do not reside in the household of a licensed Massachusetts foster home.

I lost or forgot my ID. Can we come anyway?

Please be sure to bring a photo ID. The Museum cannot confirm your eligibility for free admission without it and you will be required to purchase tickets.

How will the Museum of Science use my name and contact information?

The Museum of Science will use information provided by DCF and Wonderfund strictly to administer free admission provided under this partnership. The Museum will communicate separately only to those who had pre-existing relationships to the Museum, opt in to communication, or separately establish relationships with the Museum apart from the purview of this partnership.

If I do not register in time for the opening of the Museum of Science partnership will I still be able to gain access?

If you do not register by the deadline for the opening of the partnership, your registration will be rolled over to the next quarter of the year when we open up free membership to the additional registrants.

Can you still have free access to the Museum of Science even if you did not receive the email about this opportunity?

In order to be eligible for this opportunity you must have received an email from the Department of Children and Families explicitly explaining this opportunity. These emails went out all DCF Foster Families who have email addresses. If you did not receive an email but believe that you are eligible, please contact your social worker or local DCF office.
